ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT
Please make sure that your child comes to school on a regular basis and on time. Please make every effort to have your child in school by 7:55 a.m. A number of teachers open their classrooms early to help students get ready for the day. All teachers have their students working on a regular routine as soon as the bell rings at 8:00 a.m. Not being with the class from the very start of the day may cause the child to feel uneasy about stepping into the rhythm of the morning routines and class instructions. The child may be playing "catch up" for the rest of the day. We want to create the most supportive environment at school so your child can experience maximum learning.
In case of absence, please inform the school by sending a note to the teacher through brother/sister or a friend's child, stating the reason for the absence; or send a note with your child upon his/her returen to school. Notification of impending long term or emergency absences must be cleared with a written letter addressed to the Principal at least one week prior to the absence of the child. Send the letter to the child's teacher who will forward it to the office. Parents are reminded that frequent absences may lead to a referral to the Family Court.
STUDENT TARDINESS
It is immportant that children come to school on time. If your child should be tardy, send him/her to the school office with a note explaining the reason for tardiness. Children coming to school tardy will not be eligible for Perfect Attendance Awards.
EARLY RELEASE
Please help our office staff by sending a note for early release to the officewith your child in the morning. It will save you time when you come to pick your child up at school. Include the following: Date, child's name, room number, teacher name, time you will be picking up the child, and parent signature. Students must be checked out at the office, they will not be released from the classroom without an official release form. All parents, volunteers, and visitors to our school must first check into the office for clearance and signing in. Items such as homework, lunch, etc. for students maybe left in the office for delivery. Classroom visits must be pre-arranged with the teacher with suitable advance notice. All volunteers must follow "Volunteer Guidelines" (see the PCNC)
APPLICATION FOR FREE AND REDUCED PRICED MEALS -HELP!
Please complete and return the application for Free and Reduced Priced Meals as soon as you are able. Qualifying guidelines, based on Federal standards, determine if your child is eligible. If a large percentage of our families qualify for free or reduced priced meals, the school receives Title 1 funds from the federal government. These extra funds enable the school to provide more help and support to all children at Kealakehe Elementary. Reading Intervention tutors and grade level tutors are hired to give extra help to your child. Please help us continue to qualify for Title 1 funds by returning your application as soon as possible.
HEALTH ROOM NEWS
Parents, please be sure to complete both sides of the EMERGENCY CARD for each child in school and include contacts other than parents. If in the future there are changes in the information you have given us on this form, especially phone numbers, please be sure to contact us immediately.
Medication: Brought to School- Please do not send medication to school with your child. The form SHS-36 must be filled out by the doctor and parent and returned to the Health Room before we can accept any medication for short and /or long term. When authorized, parents need to deliver all medications to the health room. Parents will need to have a pass to enter the parking lot to drop off medication. Our Health Aide distributes the passes for this purpose only. If the Health Aide is not available, medication must be signed in at the office.
